Thank you
for visiting. You can ask Ray Charles a question here.
I am looking for a copy of "Just Between Us". Will this album never be released again? It will be such a great pity. I thinks this is RC at his very very best. Where can I obtain a copy of this album? Please assist me.

Hi Mr.C. I was recently in NY(unfortunately not the same time you were playing at BB's...sorry I missed it). While I was there I met a man at the Birdland, I think his name was Leroy, recently had a birthday(70 or 71), said he played trumpet for you, anyway I was wondering if you could please tell me his full name and if there is a way I could send him a note. He was a wonderful gentleman and I didn't make it out for his birthday. I just want to say thank you and happy birthday. I would appreciate it if you could get back to me and tell me his name and if I can reach him. cheers Thank you sincerely Kym Butler

Mr.Charles, two years ago my sister and I flew from L.A. to Washington,D.C. to get together with three dear friends. We then in turn drove up the eastern seaboard to Providence,Rhode Island where we saw you perform at the "JVC Jazz Festival". The weather was most unfavorable that day. Funny thing though, as soon as you began to sing "Georgia", the sun peeped between the clouds, then came out completely, shining brightly. My 'crew'(we called ourselves "The Furious Five") and I, along with thousands of other(wet)fans were dancing, and singing right along with you. It was wonderful, and I thought, "what a beautiful day". You made it that way. THANK YOU FOR THAT, AS WELL AS YEARS OF SELFLESSLY SHARING YOUR GIFT FROM GOD WITH US/OTHERS. YOU'RE ONE OF A KIND......A GEM. God bless, and you're in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

Dear Mr. Charles ~ You are my sole surviving hero. I just read of your hip problem and having to cancel your 2003 tour. I am sorry. You are music. No matter what genre of music you play, I hear Blues drenched in it, in your playing style and voice.
I am a professional piano player and you changed my life when I heard "What I Say" on the radio at age 8 in 1959. It is the first record I ever bought and the first song I learned by ear. I met you once in Seattle, we shook hands and spoke briefly. I told you "If you will remember how you felt when you met Art Tatum, that is how I feel meeting you now."
I have a CD coming out next month and I will cover two of your songs, the very obscure but my favorite song of yours "Just A Man" sometimes called "My God and I" and also "I Chose To Sing The Blues."
When I play a song of yours I often tell the audience "This song is by the only man I would kiss on the mouth...Brother Ray Charles."
My thoughts and prayers go out to you for a speedy recovery.
With Love & Admiration ~ Doc

Ray, my wife recently heard one of your songs on the radio here in phoenix and she did not catch the name of the track. All she can remember is that some of the lyrics had "cry" as well as "if I could" in it. She said that it was a song that a parent would write to a child. Thank you for the gift of your music.

Ray,
I read a press release regarding your hip injury. Until recently I owned the largest orthopedic injury clinic in northern California. I know how dibilitating an injury such as yours can be. I also got to know Saunders King, a patient of ours for a good many years following a stroke, fairly well. He was a musicial contemporary of yours and an extraordinary human being. Unfortunately, I attended his funeral a couple of years ago. A lot of women spoke longingly of him, but that is another story. Since you have some time, should you have the inclination, I would like to propose an email game of chess. I shall be so bold as to make the first move: K2-K4. I await your response.

I had the great pleasure of attending your performance (along with several other others) at the Newport(RI)Folk Festival in believe it was either 1958 or 1959. I was wondering if you recall or were aware of the events that were taking place outside the venue during your fantastic performance? I was so involved with what was happening on stage , I never realized that crowd control in the form of fire hoses was necessary until I heard it on the news the next day. Were the entertainers and performers aware of what was going on ?

Mr. Charles, Mr. Charles, you are definitely one of the greatest. When I was in high school back in the 60's, my fried and I used to play the organ solo to Outskirts of Town over and over, and we go "uh-huh" right when you did. Later when I taught kids in New York City to write poetry, this young man played organ for his church. He'd never heard you. I played him Outskirts of Town and I've Got News for You, and the kid flipped. He didn't know the organ could do that. I love those two songs. Also, my fave album is Ray Charles in Person (Drown in My Own Tears, Tell the Truth, Frenzy, etc). Fabulous. And those horns! They absolutely slay me. Your horns and The Memphis Horns always blew my little head right off.
Only problem is, I can't find a cd that has Outskirts of Town and I've Got News For You, and I can't find a CD of Ray Charles in Person. And one more thing, I used to love to play your version of Tell the Truth and Otis Redding's version of the same song back to back. That was ecstasy. Glad to see your website. Please tell me where I can get the above albums. Thanks, for all the wonderful music that moved my heart and feet.

Dear Mr. Charles,
You're a musical genius, you're the greatest! I loved your music when I was 14 yrs. old in 1957 & I still love it! Of your many big hits, here are some of my favorites: "Cry", "Here We Go Again","Ain't That Love", Swanee River Rock", "Let's Go Get Stoned", "I Don't Need No Doctor","I Can't Stop Loving You", "America the Beautiful" & "I Gotta Woman". I like your quote: "When I do a song, I must be able to make it stink in my own way". When you "do" a song, everyone else better stay away (as in not try to cover it, 'cause they can't). Will you record some more country/western songs? That would be fantastic.
I'm planning on driving to Galveston to see your concert on August 8, 2003.
May the best of everything that life has to offer come your way.

I have loved your music since I was a little kid! I hold you in the highest reguard and I am disappointed that "they" have chosen Jamie Foxx to portray you in "Unchain My Heart" as he has a reputation for being an unpleasant, egotistical person - the exact opposite of you. What are your feelings on the movie? Is it accurate? Did you have any say about the script? If you don't endorse it, I won't watch it.

I have a newphew who is currently 17 years old and was born blind from a premature birth. Since a very young age he has been playing the piano and several other musical instruments. He is extremely talented and currently plays in a band and performs for his church on a weekly basis. In addition to his muscial ability he is also very intelligent and just recently scored extremely high on his standardized tests. The main reason I am writing is ask your assistance in leading him in the right direction for his muscial career. Everyone who has seen him perform belives that one day he will be a huge success, however I believe he lacks the contacts to help him. I was wondering...
Mr.Charles is a verry big influence in my music and life. I am a guitar player and I am 18. I was wondering if I were ever to meet Mr.Charles anywhere if it would be possible to shake his had and tell him personaly how greatfull I am to be as lucky to hear his voice.. up untill i was 3 I was deaf. at the age of 3 I heard my first ray charles song and i started to try to mimmick the sounds i heard. now i am 18 and i am still a music lover.. and in the day and age there ane not to many kids who can appreciate the quallity of a song or music or even an artist. I am one of the verry few who still appreciate a good artist or a piece of music. and if i never get to meet him in person i would like him to know that there is still hope to save the music and the classics the he was apart of and also a part of inspireing people to create the masterpieces. and i would also like to thank him for doing his best to be a musician and his best to make it even with all the racial slanders growing up because not only was he blind but also black therefor he had it twice as bad "back in the day".
I am not a psyco fan or infactuated with him or anything i jut want him to know that even in the younger generation there are still SOME who care.
with great thanks Timothy Allen Adams

My mother passed away on Feb.1 1998 and it was her favorate song. Hi Pops,
I found this information online when looking you up at Humphreys by the Bay. This is great! If this works I can keep in touch with you this way instead of always leaving messages. You know, "She Knows" is my favorite song and I never hear you sing it. I had the album with it on but lost it. Maybe on day I can hear you sing it again. Take care and hope to hear from you. Love you Synt

Dear Ray Charles,
I've been listening to you for more than 40 years, have all the albums and never miss a concert when you come to the UK. Congratulations on the new CD. I have two requests: a record of you accompanying yourself on accoustic piano with maybe one or two great solo instrumentalists,
and 'Ray Charles sings Duke Ellington'. Any chance?
Many thanks for all the pleasure and inspiration you've given me over the years.

Hello Mr. Charles,
This is Joël Dufour, writing for the SOUL BAG magazine. I had the privilege of enjoying an interview with you a few years back and I welcome this grand opportunity offered by your website to get in touch with you again. What I am the most concerned about at this time is the music of the forthcoming film about your life story “Unchain My Heart”. Whenever the actor playing your part will be shown playing and signing will it always be actually yourself playing and singing? What I mean is: could you actually sing more or less the way you did when you were a youngster, or did somebody else do it?
How much new music from you can we hope for in the record of the soundtrack of the film? Will it be a double or triple CD?
I am very glad that you reactivated your Crossover label, and I am looking forward to the Ellis Hall CD. Besides new recordings, will you also release CDs of music from your vaults, for example by such great artists as Percy Mayfield, Louis Jordan, the Raelets, Leroy Cooper? And, most of all, a very large part of your own body of work from the sixties and the seventies still cry out to be reissued. Do you plan to remedy to that situation?
Thank you for all your wonderful music, past, present and future.
I hope to hear from you.
Warm regards, Joël Dufour (Soul Bag magazine)

Not too long ago, I read on your website about plans to release a gospel concert on CD and DVD. The link now appears to be gone. Is this still in the works, and if so, is there a timeframe? I've been excited about the prospect of this performance being released to the public. Thank you,
-David

Ray,
A new label, hopefully new music, like what you were playing on the piano in the introduction to this website. Your live shows are still great, the recorded music needs to have the same punch. Now here is my question: a song I have heard at your live shows titled, I believe, "Take it to me slow," I NEED that song. I have a woman who would do ANYTHING... Well, I'm sure you understand. You are a few years my senior, but I imagine still appreciate the things that can make a difference. Sheet music, tape, whatever. I know you like money, I'll even send you some. Finally, if you are short a chess partner, I play. I prefer going first, so here is my opening: K2-K4. You can name the stakes.
Thanks,
Peter

Mr. Charles, I'm a pianist, and you are one of my all-time heroes! Your music has played a very important role in my life, and I am awe-struck at your mastery of the keyboard, and your intrepretation of music. Nobody can do "The Long and Winding Road", "The Three Bells", and "Till There Was You" like you do. I'm a self-trained pianist, and was wondering what I need to do to better myself as a musician. I took lessons for about 10-11 years, but my teacher never once stressed the importance of theory and especially technique. She was more concerned about performance, and discouraged my playing by ear. I don't read sheet music very well at all, and I was wondering if there was any exercises you might recommend to strengthen my fingers and develop my piano playing. Mr. Charles, once again, I'd like to thank you for your wonderful music and for being an influence on me. Keep on Rockin' Ray!
